Just Keep Looking

I can't believe how many things there are to discover on the mile round trip walk to the mailboxes.

A Blustery Day

"SKIRL"

That's short for "SQUIRREL" which is what we yell every time we want a reaction out of the dog. Actually, there are a few key words that provide an excited look in her eyes. "RABBIT", "NELSON" and "CHANCY" can all produce a look on her face that we can laugh at, but, "SQUIRREL" tops the list. (And yes, you have to yell with an excitement in your voice, as indicated by all caps)
We saw one run across our path on our afternoon walk and she was heavily fixated on the spot where it disappeared. I'm so going to get in trouble for this, because I am not allowed to let her dig, but I didn't know it was happening until I came upon it. Remember, she's faster than me, especially when fuzzy, furry creatures are involved. Look at that dirt fly!

Although she hasn't said it out loud

I'm pretty sure she would much rather spend the day with him.
The days are few and far between when I get a tail wagggin' when we meet again.
I get it. He takes her shooting and motorcycle riding and wrestles with her like her peer.
I get it. He lets her run loose when he's working outside, practically forgetting about her, while her mother keeps a tight rein on her when it's her turn to work outside.
I get it. He gives her a bone every time he comes home from work, although she still can't flip it off her nose and catch it her mouth.

But, Deefor, I want you to know those rough-n-tumble activities do not come without their consequences, and I hereby, promise to never get a fish hook stuck in your nose like someone else we know.

We're Practicing Our Action Shots

She's known around these parts as, "the fast dog."
It took about 2 feet before she outran the big dog on the right in this last picture.
Well, who could blame the big dog?
I can't even keep up with my own dog.
She runs circles around me!
The other day, I got ahead of her and she tried to take me out.
That's right, she came right up behind me running at full speed and clipped my leg.
I almost went down, but I was determined not to be humiliated by my own dog.

What's a Girl and Her Dog to do...

...when they get stuck in a hail storm in the middle of their walk?
Duck under the tree until loud pounding of hail subsides to a softer tone,
make a run for it past the dogs, down the hill and around the bend,
while politely refusing a ride home from a neighbor driving by.
Just a few more reasons I love the country.

Red

I'm a little obsessed with these red berry-like things.
They provide such great contrast and are creating some very painterly photographs.
