Purple Amethyst

Although I do not know the date this vintage purple and red Vera Neumann scarf was created, I do wonder what inspired her to choose the deep amethyst purple and lively cherry red that are so unexpected, but so beautiful together. Although purple is not so en vogue right now, I have seen it start to sprout up (Martha Stewart, afterall, has created an entire Christmas line around the lovely color.) The deep jewel-like tone is also proudly displayed in these hand-etched glasses by Artel. Featured here are just 2 pieces in the "baroko" glassware series inspired, in part, by the 1920s. Designer, Karen Feldmen, heavily influenced by the glamour of the Czech Republic, where she lives, has created an inspiring collection of glassware which is created in Prague by her modern glassmaking company, Artel. In the spirit of Thanksgiving

With Thanksgiving less than 2 weeks away, I have started to give some thought to the friends and family that enrich my life. I am so blessed to be living so close to most of my family and am taking such joy in watching our neice and nephews grow up. I am also so thankful for this blogging world in which we can enrich each other's lives with no barriers of distance. I am truly amazed at the people I have "met" along the way.
In the spirit of Thanksgiving, I am posting this Marimekko Fabric. Although it is not vintage, it does have a simplistic and modern retro feel to it. It reminds me of the fields I see out here in the country. I have decided to pair it with the Maple Leaf Branch from Pottery Barn since the changing colors of Autumn is somewhat absent in Southern California!

Marimekko Fabric

These Marimekko fabrics are so refreshing and lively and are just begging to be turned into something wonderful. When I came across the fabrics, the color reminded me of the lining fabric used by cake + pie on this gorgeous "Velma" bag. This talented young lady is so creative and I do wish I had the pateince to sew something just as beautiful. Visit her blog to see how she made the bag.
The large floral design is part of 3 Marimekko fabric remnants I purchased at the Crate & Barrel outlet store. The small pattern on the right is a closeup of 1 in a pair of vintage Marimekko pillow cases. Both of the fabrics are listed on eBay with a low starting price of $.99 with no reserve.

Vintage Bird Swap

As a little girl, I can remember playing with the peach tea set pictured below. I was always busy stirring up special concoctions and serving imaginary guests at my grandmother's house. I recently received these small vintage jars from dear, sweet Bronwen through a vintage bird swap and immediately I thought they would make the perfect addition to the tea set. If my husband and I have a little girl one day, I can imagine us playing together with this fun set, and if we do not end up having any girls, you can be sure they will be passed on to some sweet little one to develop her imagination. I will soon be posting more of the gifts I received through the vintage bird swap. Also, if anyone is interested in participating in a vintage sway, the next one I am participating in is the vintage Christmas swap.

A field of green!

One must be very careful when pairing this busy vintage fabric, but I think this Dandelion Field Silk Pillow from Target coordinates well without being too overbearing. The fabric is available in my etsy shop at a low price and I am now offering a discount on multiple fabric purchases, so come check out my store and see what goodies might tempt you for your next craft project!
