Back to our regularly scheduled chick posts

Although its had quite a varied history, in its short span, this blog is actually quite an accurate representation of me. My interests are quite varied - from art to the outdoors and lots of things in between. I went from showcasing pictures of pretty vintage items in my etsy store to displaying photographs of dirty race vehicles. And I love it. And I love this picture above.
I love the vibrant colors. I love that it screams, "summer!" And I love that it's a freakin' watermelon on a skirt. And in case you didn't know, it has a vintage twang to it. It seems Anthropologie teamed up with the company in control of Vera Neumann designs. Vera was a very popular designer in the 60's and 70's. Best known for her design of scarves, she also designed apparel, fabric, dinnerware and kitchen towels. When I saw this skirt it reminded me of my first Vera purchase: a bright pink vintage kitchen towel I picked up at the antique store quite a few years back. It was then that I fell in love with all things, "Vera." The watermelon skirt might have to be a special splurge because I'm pretty sure it's destined to become a classic and coveted vintage piece one day!

Safety First!

These ornaments do not belong on a tree
atop a tile floor
with little brown dog cooped up from all the rain.

A Slight Problem

I'm guilty of keeping many things I buy that are meant for my etsy shop. Sometimes an item I like never even makes it into my shop and sometimes an item I like makes it into my etsy shop and then "accidentally" disappears from my shop.
Currently this vintage leather hand tooled purse resides in my shop. If you like it, I suggest you hurry before I change my mind. Ladies, if you see me on Friday night with this beauty draped across my body, you'll know I got weak.

Sleep Tight, Little One

My creative wheels started turning when I stopped by decor8 this afternoon. I just love this time of year because the new spring lines are out everywhere - fashion, bedding, accessories... I was really struck by the use of color by Binth for their new spring line because the colors are so out of the ordinary. And so I got to thinking out of the ordinary! How adorable would a nursery be with this "Numbers" Poster hanging on the wall and this vintage tablecloth in my etsy shop, re-purposed as a baby blanket! Sleep tight, little one.

My newest favorite possession

Circa nineteen-eighty-something-or-other.
Honey, I bet when you wore this in elementary school, you never thought your wife would be sporting it one day!

Fine Details

One of the reasons I love vintage items is because they are a preservation of pieces of the past. Currently listed in my etsy shop is a vintage postcard souvenir folder of some gorgeous illustrations of New Orleans. I was looking through them I wondered what still stands and what has been ravaged by floods.
The ironwork and architecture in these 2 particular illustrations caught my eye - such charm and intricate detail! Perhaps I should add New Orleans to the ever-growing list of places that I need to visit!

Exotic Wildlife

With this combination of Vintage Zoological Postcards from my etsy shop and these Organic Animal Print Jacquard Towels from West Elm, you won't have to leave home to feel like you're in an exotic locale! With the variation of colors in the towels, the postcards would look great framed in a natural wood color (to complement the giraffe towel) or a dark espresso color (to complement the snow leopard towel). Just replace your towels, hang up the postcards and add a few accessories for an instant retreat!

Newly Listed

Growing up in the desert Southwest, I have an appreciation for its beauty. These Vintage Postcards with illustrations of the Yucca plant and Saguaro cactus would look simply perfect framed and hung on a wall. These Southwest beauties can be purchased in my etsy shop.

Vintage Japanese Mugs

Vintage mugs, such as the ones pictured above, are popping up everywhere. Victoria just did a post on vintage mugs over at SFgirlbybaby. Practical, and pretty, I just love seeing everyone's collection mixed and matched and jumbled all together. These 2 are stamped "Japan" on the bottom and each one is available in my etsy shop.
Update-both mugs are sold!
Re-update - I have another green mug in stock!

Sweet and Sassy

I'm loving the sheer and sassy nature of this otherwise sweet and innocent vintage apron. Practicality may be out the window, but what fun it would be to cook up a fine dinner for a few friends on a special occasion, or perhaps just a meal alone with you and your husband. If you 'd like to make it yours, you can find it here, in my etsy shop.
